Bharat Ratna (Civilian Award)

  • Bharat Ratna is considered as the highest civilian award of the country. It is awarded in recognition of exceptional service and performance in any field of human endeavour.
  • The recommendations are made by the Prime Minister of India to the President.
  • It is Instituted on 2 January 1954
  • The recipients has given a Sanad (certificate) signed by the President and a peepal leaf-shaped medallion.
  • The medal of award is in the shape of a peepal leaf rimmed in platinum.Which is approximately 59 mm long, 48 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick.

Padma Shri award

  • Padma Shri is considered as the fourth-highest civilian award in India.
  • The awarad is given by the Government of India on every Republic Day.
  • The awarad is given to citizens due to their significant contribution in the field of art, science, literature, education, industry, sports, medicine, social service, industry, and social studies.
  • In year 2022 the President has approved conferment of (one hundred and twenty eight )128 Padma Awards (four)4 Padma Vibhushan, (seventeen)17 Padma Bhushan and (one hundred and seven)107 Padma Shri Awards.




Gallantry awards

  • First three gallantry awards Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra were instituted by the Government of India on 26th January, 1950 which were deemed to have effect from the 15th August, 1947.
  • Another three gallantry awards called Ashoka Chakra Class-I, Ashoka Chakra Class-II and Ashoka Chakra Class-III were instituted by the Government of India on 4th January, 1952. It was deemed to have effect from the 15th August, 1947. Which were renamed further as Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra respectively in January, 1967.
  • The gallantry awards are announced twice every year - on the occasion of the Republic Day and the Independence Day.
