A simple sentence is sentence that expresses a complete thought.
It comprises of- A subject
- A verb
- A complete thought
- The bus was late.
- Sohan and Mohan took the bus.
A compound sentence has two main clauses joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction or a semi-colon.
- Compound sentences connect two simple sentences. They often do not show a clear relationship between the two parts.
- I waited for the taxi, but it was late.
- I want to lose weight, yet I eat junck food daily.
A complex sentence has a main clause and one or more dependent clauses.
- If the dependent clause comes before the independent clause, add a comma after the dependent clause. If the main clause comes first, no comma is needed between the two.
- Complex sentences can show a more specific relationship between the sentences than a compound sentence.
- We won the competition because we worked together.
- Although I was sick, I still cheered for my team from the backside.
