A verb is a "doing" or "action" word.

A verb is a word or a combination of words which indicates action or a state of being or condition.

A verb is the part of a sentence which tells us what the subject performs.

  • Example:-
    • Jacob walks in the morning. (A usual action)
    • Albert does not like to walk. (A negative action)
    • Mike is going to school. (A condition of action)
  • There are mainly two kinds Of verbs
    • Finite Verbs
    • Infinite Verbs

Finite verbs change their form according to change in the subject or the tense.

  • Example:-
    • I work hard for my family.
    • She works hard for her family.
    • Here, the verb (work) is changing accourding to the subject, so work is Finite verb.

Transitive Verbs

  • A transitive verb is one which only makes sense if it exerts its action on an object.
  • Example:-
    • I write a letter.
    • They like sweets.
    • The boys are making a noise.

Intransitive Verbs

  • An Intransitive Verb is one which has no object. It denotes an action which does not pass over to an object.
  • Example:-
    • The horse walks.
    • Birds fly.
    • The glass broke.

Auxiliary Verbs

  • An auxiliary verb (or a helping verb) is used with a main verb to express the main verb's tense, mood, or voice.
  • Example:-
    • She was waiting for an hour.
    • She is waiting in the hall.
    • She will be waiting outside.

The infinitive form of a verb means the verb in its basic form. It is the dictionary version word.

  • Example:-
    • I need to run every day.
    • He likes to hunt.
    • To dance was her passion.
