Origine of cricket

World's second most popular sports after association football(soccer) is cricket.

It has begun in late 16 century in South East England.

It become popular sport in 18 century and developed globally in 18 and 19 century.

International matches played in19th-century and formal Test cricket matches were started from 1877.

On 15 June 1909 , The International Cricket Council(ICC) was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference atLord's.

Australia,England, and South Africa were founding members. In early days , only countries of Commonwealth  group could join ICC.

New Zealand, Indiaand the WestIndies joined in 1926 to ICC and Pakistan joined ICC in 1953.

South Africa resigned from the Conference in 1961 due to their leaving the Common wealth & continued to play Test cricket until their international exile in 1970.

South Africa returned to international cricket after a 21-year gap on November 10, 1991, playing against India at Calcutta.

Now a day , more than 100 countries are playing this sport and associated with ICC.

There are three formats International cricket .
Test match : A five-day match One-day International (ODI) : It is 50 over match played in two innings. Most latest and popular format is T20.

Cricket is a game of team support. It is played on a big circular levelled ground and pitch is in the center of ground. Length and breadth of pitch are 24 yards and 4 yards respectively. Two set of stum are rooted at both end of pitch at a distence of 22 yards .Pitch is prepared same for any format of game.

Each team playing game comprises 11 players. One team beating with two players on groundand remaining player in pavilion (waiting for bating order)and another team will have all 11 players in the ground guarding the fields.


Cricket Equipment

  • Bat−It should not be more than 38 inches in length and 4.25 inches wide.
  • Ball− It's weight must between 155.9 and 163 g and circumference should be between 224 and 229 mm. Cricket ball is a spherical object made of cork and covered with leather stitched around ball into two piees. The color of the cricket ball for test matches is red and it is white for ODI and T20 matches.
  • Stumps− stumps are cylindrical and long in shape with spear shape in bottom portion to root it. Which goes into the ground so that it stand erect in the ground.
  • Bails− Bails are the smallest cricket equipment placed on stumps. It helps in giving easy alerts for decisions by umpires to dismiss the batsman when they became out.
  • Different protective gears are used by the player to avoid getting herts.

  • Keeper glove− It doesn’t have specific measurement and have webbing between thumb and the index finger. It should not be made of stretchable material. Batsman Glove− It is similar in shape but smaller and softer on the outer part than keeper glove. It is basically used to hold the bat firmly. The finger portions of glove have extra protection with hard sponge on the outer area.
  • Keeper/Batsman Pads− Keeper/Batsman Pads is worn to protect the lower limbs of the batsman/keeper. These are made with cloth and leather. The front part of the pads is very hard . The rear part is spongy and soft to soothe and comfort legs. Keeper's pads are little shorter than batsman pads.
  • Helmet− Helmet is a head gear used by batsman/keeper while batting or wicket-keeping behind the stumps. It is  made by mixing of metal and hard plastic. Metallic grill in the front of helmet protect the face.

Common terms used in cricket game

  • Striker− A batsman facing the bowler is known as striker and its oppositeend batter is called non-striker.
  • Off-side/leg-side− One half of the ground is known as off-side and the other side is called leg-side. From right handed batter and left hand batter consideration of Off-side/leg-side are opposite.Facing side of batter is termed as offise and backward is called legside.
  • Run− Run is basic unit measurenet of cricket. It is also clled score. When a striking batter hits the ball and runs between the stumps along with non-striker. It is usually given a value of one, two, and three.
  • Four− the boundary line by rolling on the ground. Then, it is known (a boundary) or four runs.
  • Six− The ball hit by the batter crosses directly outside (through air) the rope is called six or six runs are allotted to the batsman.
  • No-ball− If a bowler’s foot crosses the popping crease during delivering of ball then, it is known as no-ball. The ball bowled that is directed above waist of the batsman without pitching on the ground is also termed as no-ball .
  • Wide− A ball which is bowled away from the batsman and moves wide of the return crease on the off-side at the batter end is called wide ball. Another definition is ball bowled that bounces over the head of the batter after pitching is also called wide ball.
  • Out/dismis− When a batter/batsman gets out by ten diffrent ways , next batter gets the opportunity to go on the batting side to play . This cycle continue until 10 players out of 11 are dismissed in various ways:caught, bowled, LBW, stumped, hit wicket, run out, timed out, handled the ball, obstructing the field, and hit the ball twice.
  • Innings− A complete session of batting and bowling where either the batting team is all-out(all 10 wicket down) or the defined number of overs to be bowled by the fielding team is completed.

    Team India

    The India men's national cricket team, also called as Team India or the Men in Blue. They represent India in men's international cricket.
    It is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
    BCCI is a Full term member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, ODI and T20 format.

    BCCI works under jurisdiction of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports . It was founded in 1928 (94years ago) under affiliation of International Cricket Council.

    1983 Cricket World Cup

    The Indian cricketer  represented in 1983 Cricket World Cup (also known as Prudential Cup '83) was the 3rd edition of the Cricket World Cup tournament. It was held  in England and Wales from 9 to 25 June 1983  and India won the world cup.
    India, Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe were the participants in 1983 world cup.
    England India, Pakistan and West Indies were qualified for the semi-finals.
    The Final match was played between India  vs. West Indies in the Lord’s Stadium (London, England).
