Noun

A naming word is called NOUN.

  • People - A person’s name is a noun such as Ram, Krishan,Radha etc.. or words that can be used to name a person, such as mother, father, sister, brother, student, or teacher.
  • Places - Words used to name places are nouns, such as names of countries, states, cities, streets, and locations like home, school, building or office.
  • Things - Words that name things are nouns, dog , cat,car,stove , bed, house.
  • Concepts ,Ideas, Emotions - Words that describe intangible concepts, Ideas & Emotions represent abstract nouns. Examples include intellect, faith, comfort, or satisfaction, integrity, loyalty, freedom, patriotism,happiness, sympathy or grief.
  • Different types of nouns:
    • Common noun
    • Proper noun
    • Abstract noun
    • Collective noun
    • Material noun
    • Singular noun & Plural noun
    • Countable noun & Uncountable noun
  • Common noun is a word that refers to a person, place, or thing but that is not the name of a particular person, place, or thing.
    • Example:- house, cat, girl, foot, country etc.
    • Alex is a wonderful player.
    • He was not born in this country.
    • Raipur is the city he lives in.
  • Proper noun tells about name of a particular person, place, or thing.It can be a word or group of words .
    • Proper noun is always begins with a capital letter.
    • Example:- Ram, Bruno, Taj Mahal, Dell etc.
    • The boy threw the ball to his dog, Ramu.
    • Rahul and Ram took their dog for a walk.
  • Abstract noun denotes an idea, quality, or state rather than a concrete object.
    • Example:- love, creativity, democracy etc.
    • We have to get at the truth of the matter.
    • People lost faith in banks.
    • She will defeat them.
  • A collective noun refers to a group that functions as one unit or performs the same action at the same time.
    • Example:- crowd, flocks, committee, a sum of money etc.
    • Jacky seems to be a member of a gang.
    • Britney has piles of money.
    • She saw a flock of sheep.
  • A material noun tells about a material or substance from which things are made such as silver, gold, iron, cotton, diamond and plastic.
    • Example:- cloth, air, metal, gold, salt, iron, silver, steel, brass, bronze etc.
    • Cotton dresses are very cheap and comfortable.
    • My Father purchased a gold ring for me.
    • Taj Mahal is built using marbles.
  • Singular noun:- A singular noun refers to only one person or thing.
  • Plural noun:- A plural noun refers to more than one person or thing.
    • Example:- Woman (Singular), Women (Plural).
    • Example:- Man (Singular), Men (Plural).
    • My cat (singular noun) is (singular verb) big and hairy.
    • In my opinion, dogs (plural noun) are (plural verb) the cutest pets in the world.
  • Countable noun:- A countable nouns are individual people, animals, places, things, or ideas which can be counted.
  • Uncountable noun:- A uncountable noun is not individual object, so they cannot be counted.
    • Example of countable nouns:- an apple, two apples, three apples, etc..
    • Example of uncountable nouns:- air, rice, water, etc.
    • He has one car.
    • Sugar is sweet.
